college summer course reflection!

When my mom first suggested taking CHEM142 over summer at UW in order to get a head start on my major (bioengineering), my initial response was one word: no. Why would I want to sacrifice my summer going to UW for over half the week in order to suffer through lectures and labs? However, as I had learned in the past, things inevitably end up going my mom's way, and next thing I knew I was signing a contract to devote 10 weeks to General Chemistry and countless hours of commuting.
Fast forward to 7 weeks later, and I'm actually doing pretty okay. I've met new people, learned a shit ton of new things, and found a new sense of independence. The first couple weeks of the course seemed like a review of high school chemistry, so I just did what was required of me (worksheets, pre-lab quizzes, online homework) and spent the rest of my hours binging on Netflix. Although Orange is the New Black is never a waste of time, I found out I made a big mistake when I got my first midterm score: 55/86. I checked my grade online and slightly freaked out (understatement)..sure the average was 60, but then again the average is a 2.6 GPA.
Anyways after that I learned that college classes are no joke. Unfortunately, high school classes are a joke. So I wasn't really prepared at all. However, I felt more motivated and challenged than I have in many years at public school. I started investing more time into homework to really understand the concept, I went to the chem study center to get whatever help I could from my TA, I started talking to other students in my class that were willing to study with me and help me out with homework and lab reports. I found myself putting in more effort into one class than I had in an entire semester of high school, and I loved it. I still do.
My second midterm is on August 5th, and I look forward to doing much better than I did on my last one. :-)
At this point, I'm so glad my mom convinced me to take this class. I'm thankful to her, to my professor and TA, to all of my new friends, but mostly to myself. For not giving up at 1 am when I had to redo my entire lab report, for commuting 2 hours every day, for doing online homework 4 hours straight, and for strangely enjoying all of it.

it's been a while

Wow, it's been a longgg while since I've posted. The only reason I'm really here is because I got assigned an English project to write a blog on this dystopian novel I'm reading, and used the same blogger account. It's been about 5 years since I've posted, and a lot has happened in 5 years. I'm now 15 years old, 5'8", a sophmore in high school, and extremely nervous about finals. Looking back on my old posts, I have mixed feelings of embarrassment and nostalgia. Since I used to just post about random things, old google logos, and snacking, I'm not really sure what the theme of this blog should be. Then again, it's my blog, so I guess I'll just choose whatever I want. I wonder if anyone still actually looks at this blog...Anyways, if anyone happens to stumble upon this post, please leave a comment on what you want me to post. Not that I expect any comments.

This is just a post wishing everyone a happy 4th of July, and a happy Indepedence day too! I hope you enjoy the fireworks and have a great day. :)

P.S. I was wishing I could add a picture of fireworks, but my computer isn't in my favor today, I guess..

End of School Year!!!

For me, today was the last day of the school. It's also pretty big for us 6th graders, because it is our last school year in elementary school. There was lots of crying, and I already miss a lot of people. Because my school isn't my home school(my home school, Panther Lake, doesn't have hi-cap, the program I am in); there is a lot of people who are going to a different middle school. The main middle school for my school, Meridian Elementary, is Mattson middle school. I am going to Mill Creek middle school, in the Tech Academy. It is a program where you get your middle school computers early and almost all of your assignments are on the computers. It's really cool... :)

Also, today there is a really cool google logo for the first day of Summer! Even without animation, it is one of my favorites..but I am having a hard time finding a picture, so I'll just let you see it yourself...

Bleh.

There's really not much happening in my life these days, so I'm not really sure what to post about. The only interesting thing happening is tomorrow, when my class and the other 6th grade classes are going on a field trip to a Rainer's game. It's too bad that whenever we go, they lose. And last time I went my friends spent half of their time waiting for ice cream and I spent half of my time waiting for nachos. So, yea, I hope this year has a better outcome. :)
But as I said, I may not be posting as much these days....
